Get to know our new location! Toluca International Airport and the remarkable business opportunities it offers.
I recently had the opportunity of exploring the facilities at our stand located within the Toluca International Airport (AIT). So I would like to tell you the wonderful opportunities it offers and why we placed one our stand on this location. So, here it goes:
This airport complex, situated just 45 minutes away from Mexico City, is now part of the Metropolitan Airport System.
During my visit, the General Director and Airport Administrator of AIT, Engineer Luis Federico Bertrand Rubio, graciously guided me through a significant portion of the airport's infrastructure. We toured various areas including the commercial platform, terminal building, and the electrical substation, all of which adhere to stringent safety, operational, and comfort standards. However, it was disheartening to see that these facilities are currently underutilized.
Bertrand Rubio informed me that due to the global health crisis caused by Covid-19, there have been challenges regarding the transfer and transportation security at Toluca International Airport (AIT).
In 2020, the airport's passenger activity was notably affected, experiencing a 69% reduction compared to the previous year. Overall operations also saw a decline of 28% between 2019 and 2020, but they're now recovering this year.
On a positive note, the aearial cargo transportation at AIT witnessed a 26% increase despite the pandemic. This achievement solidifies the airport's position as one of the four most significant airports in Mexico in terms of cargo, as per SCT data.
The General Director of Toluca International Airport shared with me that they have implemented new commercial strategies to contribute to the efficient growth of AIT in the short, medium, and long term. Encouragingly, Tar Aerolíneas and Viva Aerobus have recently resumed operations at the airport.
Despite the pandemic, there was a 26% increase in cargo transportation at AIT. The General Director, Engineer Luis Federico Bertrand Rubio, emphasized the launch of new commercial strategies aimed at generating an efficient economy for the airport in the short, medium, and long term.
AIT offers commercial spaces for car rental companies and taxis, as well as constant transportation services between CDMX and the airport. They also have cars and buses traveling from Mexico to destinations such as Guadalajara, Querétaro, Cancún, and Monterrey. Furthermore, they plan to expand the number of destinations in 2021, and the arrival of two new airlines, MayAir and VLU, in April of this year would potentially increase the national destinations by 13.
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the need to reactivate airport operations, new business opportunities have been sought for the Toluca air terminal, just like we at Zima did. For instance, between September and December 2020, TUM Aerocarga constructed a warehouse covering an area of over 3,000 m2. Additionally, there are plans to build new cargo warehouses spanning an area of more than 74,000 m2, along with a Loading Station covering 263,000 m2.
It is worth mentioning that Toluca International Airport operates 24/7, 365 days a year, with a capacity to accommodate up to 8 million passengers annually. It boasts the longest runway in Mexico, measuring 4.2 kilometers in length and 45 meters in width. Notably, it is equipped with the CAT IIIA instrument landing system, which is a unique technology in Mexico that allows for approaches with reduced visibility.
If you choose to fly through Toluca International Airport, rest assured that you will be traveling through a secure facility. The necessary measures to prevent Covid-19 infections are strictly followed, ensuring a pleasant and safe experience for passengers. And we at Zima, will always bring you comfortable news about our newest business opportunities to share with you.
